Position Summary

This vital role will participate in a wide range of multi-disciplined customized fabrication projects such as but not limited to, concrete foundations and structural steel design in a fast-paced aggregate industry.

Core Functions

  • Take a concept, design and draw it and then work from those blueprints to create original metal designs (custom fabrication) required by our clients
  • Material take-off and generation of bill of materials
  • Analyze and improve existing processes with a sharp eye for detail
  • Familiarity with building and safety codes
  • Purchasing materials, namely steel
  • Ensure costing, quoting (specifically custom quotes), and purchasing is accurate in order to achieve consistency
  • Daily shop floor presence to ensure consistent communication with the shop floor and project team members
  • Assist with rolling out drawings to production and support the project through the fabrication process
  • Monitor budgeted materials and labour hours throughout the process to ensure profit
  • Learn, understand, and operate ESAB plasma cutter and nesting software
  • Ensure customer’s are taken care of and responded to with a sense of urgency
  • Site measurements for accuracy and to ensure drawings meet customer’s specifications and the project team is updated on these changes
  • Communicate and ensure electronic files are current

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Solidworks/Inventor and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to create custom shop drawings from hand sketches
  • Previous experience working in a custom fabrication & welding shop
  • Solid time management and ability to follow current established data storage processes
  • Strong communicator, able to explain and support their ideas
  • Proficient planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision

Experience:

  • Autodesk Inventor: 3 years (preferred)
  • SolidWorks: 3 years (preferred)
