Overview
Are you an expert when it comes to Welding Engineering? At Canadian Natural, our Mechanical Engineers are the focal point for identifying and managing asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. With consideration for health, safety, and the environment, you will provide technical support for the condition monitoring and troubleshooting for all equipment within your value stream. Focusing on loss elimination, risk management, and life cycle asset management your sound recommendations to the Upgrading and Utilities (U2) management team will be key in optimizing plant reliability, availability and production.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop Construction Work Packages for engineering work orders following the small projects workflow process including scope definition and detailed engineering for project related to materials and welding improvements
Assist in setting the required standards and protocols to manage all required inspection, monitoring and testing for assets within Horizon as related to materials and welding
Approval of Welding Procedure Specification Plan based on scope of work
Need to have technical expertise to handle concession and challenges on welding materials to codes and standards
Review, develop and update all engineering standards and specifications relating to material and welding of pipe and equipment
Review engineering drawings to ensure the weld details, PWHT, welding consumable selections are in compliance to codes/standard and to maintain the integrity of the plant
Develop WPS’s/PQR’s on behalf of CNRL for critical material welding and maintain the database
Carry out or co-ordinate the execution of relevant analysis on failure cases, report findings and make recommendations for prevention and future material selection and welding matters
This position will also work with Welding Technical Authority/ Local Authority for design, construction, integrity and operations for the integrity and materials of piping and equipment across Canadian Natural

Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 15+ years of related industry experience
Degree in Mechanical or Material (Metallurgy) Engineering
Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
At least 5 years of senior level experience in the metallurgical or welding design of oil and gas production plants and refineries
Experience developing standards and be a subject matter expert is an asset
Familiarity with and understanding of:
Working in a refinery
Working with petrochemicals
