Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Welding and Hot Tapping Engineering, this position is part of a group with key responsibilities for developing, implementing, and improving welding, materials, and hot tapping & isolation activities for ATCO Natural Gas. The individual in this role has field level understanding with the ability to connect engineering, field execution and quality for providing safe, top notch, consistent, and high quality technical and operational services.

What You Get to Do:
Be a subject matter expert for welding, materials, and hot tapping for Transmission and Distribution, including welding, fabrication, hot tapping and isolation and associated codes, standards, regulations, recommended practices and industry practices

Provide technical support and project engineer level training to all other engineering groups on welding, NDE, materials, and quality related matters

Assist with performing periodic documentation and field work audits, assessing the health of the established processes and procedures with respect to welding and hot tapping

Support weld shop and field construction with optimization of welding and debugging specific welding challenges

Assist with the development of PQRs and WPSs for ATCO’s weld shop and field services

Assist with managing third party auditing agencies for welding and quality management programs

Assist with building ATCO’s capability for offering NDE (VT and Chemistry Analysis)

Other responsibilities related to welding, materials, or quality

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Civil, Materials, Metallurgical, Welding, Mechanical, or equivalent) from an accredited University

Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA

3-6 years of Pipeline, Fabrication, Manufacturing or Process/Power Piping Engineering experience

Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Strong desire to become a technical expert in welding

Willingness to learn at both the engineering technical level and field/shop level

Ability to manage multiple customer inquiries

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge of SMAW Welding Process

Ability to travel to manufacturing and field sites as required

Ability to travel to locations in North America for meetings, training, or as required

Knowledge and experience of in-service welding and hot tapping onto carbon steel piping or pipeline systems is an asset

Experience developing PQRs and WPSs in accordance with CSA Z662 and ASME IX is an asset

CSA W178.2 Level II Qualification is an asset

ABSA Welding Examiner Qualification is an asset

Knowledge and/or experience applying welding requirements of CSA Z662, ASME B31.3 and ASME IX is an asset

Experience developing and administrating Quality Management Programs (ISO, ABSA, TSASK, TSSA, etc.) with respect to welding, fabrication, and pipeline construction is an asset

Knowledge of common NDE techniques and applying ASME V, including MT, VT, UT, is an asset

ISO9001 Auditor Qualification is an asset
