Overview

Our client, a reputable Mechanical Contractor is growing! Due to this growth, they are looking for a Fabrication, Assembly Manager.

This person will be a “Working Manager” in the same way the Field Managers both manage and work the tools. This position reports directly to the VP of Operations. The main duties of the position include:

  • Shop setup of fabrication equipment and materials for assembly
  • Assembly of pumps, piping headers, washroom groups and other items
  • Testing of assemblies including visual tests, pressure tests, dye penetrations tests, arranging x-rays when required, etc.
  • Shop organization of equipment, material deliveries, and storage
  • Management of the Assembly and Fabrication Schedule to meet the delivery requirements to MML projects
  • Working with Field Managers and staff to review drawings, develop sketches and general discussions to ensure the scope of work is fully understood
  • Working with outside fabrication shops to get specialty parts (such as multiple brackets) made, powder coated and delivered (supported by the VP of Resources)
  • Managing the Safety Supply room inventory
  • Managing all Consumables used by the shop and by the Field Managers/projects
  • Managing all workers within the shop, both those assigned to this position to support the Assembly and Fabrication duties and other field staff or office staff entering the shop for extended periods of time
  • Ability to support projects in the field in times of great need or in times of reduced assembly/fabrication work, which can happen from time to time
  • Other duties as developed for the position

Position Requirements

The position requires a person with most of the following experience and skills:

  • Licensed plumber (or will be within 1 year)
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely, and to ensure that all people in the shop are safe or working safely
  • Demonstrated ability to organize themselves and others to conduct work in an efficient manner
  • Ability to manage others in a strict but positive manner
  • Ability to assemble of pumps and other equipment. Ability to read and follow manufacturer’s instructions
  • Ability to develop pipe headers (grooved, threaded, soldered, glued) from drawings or sketches
  • Ability to setup and test different assemblies
  • Can meticulously document all testing, materials used, welders for each joint, and other requirements
  • Ability to produce dimensioned sketches for others to fabricate from
