Overview

Purpose of Position: This role is primarily responsible to support the Operations Manager – Fabrication with the oversight of day-to-day function of safety, quality and efficiency in the Stamping, Tube Fabrication, and CNC Milling Departments. Fabrication is expected to be completed on time with 100% accuracy, in order to meet the production schedule, build plan, and on time delivery to the customer.

Key Responsibilities: *

  • Supports the direction and management of salaried staff in the Fabrication departments, including Supervisors and Fabrication Scheduler.
  • Aids in the development and implementation of plans to efficiently use materials, labour and equipment to meet and exceed production targets.
  • Supports the development of production schedules and maintenance of an inventory of raw materials and finished products, including the scheduling of work centres across responsible departments within the scope of component fabrication.
  • Working closely with direct reports to produce top quality products on a consistent basis.
  • Supports the planning and implementation of changes to machinery and equipment, production systems and method of work. May include involvement in the planning and procurement of new equipment and machinery and related processes.
  • Supports the development of staff resource plans to support fluctuations in business for Stamping, Fabrication and Tube Cell, and CNC Milling
  • Participates in daily Production meeting to ensure that the department is following production schedule & implements corrective action to prevent deviations and meet due dates
  • Monitor key work centre capacity and make recommendations for outsourcing, proposed capital investment, or other means as required to ensure adequate work center capacity at all times.
  • Responsible to implement and maintain 5S within the departments.
  • Maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and Shop Floor Rules within departments.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are being adhered to as well as complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations and enforcement of same.
  • Ensure employees adhere to plant health, safety and environmental procedures at all times to secure a safe and efficient workplace.
  • Responsible for successful delivery on, and adherence to, weekly and monthly build plans as provided.
  • As required assist with interviewing and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.

Key Qualifications: *

  • 10+ years’ related experience in a metal fabrication/manufacturing environment in a progressive leadership role
  • Post-Secondary Education in a technical field or equivalent
  • Strong problem solving skills coupled with knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead others with continuous improvement
  • Strong technical skills within an engineering environment
  • Sound computer skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks independently.
