Overview

Primary responsibility is to ensure that projects are executed on time, within budget and in compliance with quality and customer expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for all planning/scheduling activities pertaining to welding and fabrication and metal finishing including employee shift schedule, job priorities based on resources and customer expectations. Coordinate activities with other departments as required.

Provide leadership, supervision, monitor performance and work quality and address deficiencies as appropriate.

Develop training programs to train staff in fabrication and welding. Continuously assess progress and provide feedback to improve their skills.

Maintain welder Qualification/Certification Matrix.

Through continuous improvement efforts optimize utilization of facility, resources and equipment. Including robotic utilization, process deficiencies, and technological advancements ie. bevelling/coping.

Establish KPI’s to drive operational improvement.

Monitor performance to agreed objectives; organizational, quality, safety and customer specifications.

Communicate with customers to discuss specifications and engineering issues.

Review welding procedures and specifications as required.

Responsible for all purchasing and subcontracted processes.

Management of all consumables.

Responsible for overall job performance (quoted vs. actual).

Manage equipment maintenance program for welding/fabrication and metal finishing.

Monitor resource needs and make recommendations to add or level staff as required.

Prepare annual performance reviews and recommend personnel action as appropriate.

Job Specifications / Qualifications:

Minimum 10+ years experience in fast passed custom metal fabrication environment. 5 years in supervisory / management position minimum.

Blue print reading of complex fabrications and assemblies a must.

Solid knowledge of welding techniques, processes, fabrication, CWB and ASME codes.

Previous positions in welding & fabrication a definite asset.

Experience working with skilled machinist, supervisors, and engineers on large fabrications an asset. Lean manufacturing and continuous improvements techniques an asset.

Strong interpersonal, motivational and communications (verbal and written) skills.
