Overview

The Fabrication Process Specialist will take responsibility for the continual process improvement of Almag’s fabrication processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with fabrication processes. This individual will utilize their experience to proactively identify productivity gaps and through a hands-on approach facilitate continuous improvement efforts in order to improve efficiencies. The Fabrication Process Specialist will assist Sales, Quality and Production groups on best practices, creative solutions, and proper approaches to drive benchmark level productivity at ALMAG.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Extrusion Process Specialist are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

Assist the fabrication manager with optimizing existing production process and drive continuous improvement.

Optimizing assigned product production rates and yields.

Proactively reviews schedules and engages technical experience to ensure daily success of operations.

Represent the operations perspective in the New Product Introduction (NPI) process of assigned products.

Process ownership to establish and upkeep of product recipes including special instructions (Epics).

Conduct Product trials through proper designs of experiments.

Maintain/optimize operating process to achieve product specifications.

Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures crucial to assigned products.

Support creation and upkeep of General Manufacturing Control Plans and PFMEA of assigned products.

Supports shift supervisors with problem solving, investigations, and the development of best practices to optimize production processes.

Supports Quality Engineers with root cause analysis, counter measure review, and implementation to support fast closure of NCR’s and agile implementation of improvements.

Based on experience and hands-on observations provides critical feedback to Die Services, Quality Engineering, Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering teams to drive quick problem resolutions and fast solution implementation by supporting teams.

May be required to work flexible hours to cover off-shifts.

Occasional travel to other ALMAG facilities.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

Post-secondary education in a technical program and/or equivalent experience.

Minimum 3 years of aluminium fabrication experience.

Additional manufacturing and/or technical experience in other fields is an asset.

Technical Skills/Competence

Extensive understanding of fabrication processes, including CNC Machining, cutting, and punching.

Self-starter requiring minimal supervision to accomplish assigned tasks.

Able to perform in a team environment with a broad cross section of people capabilities and roles.

Proven strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to solve problems at a root cause level, and determine corrective actions necessary to sustain improvements.

Strong written and oral communication skills including technical report writing.

Provides leadership to cross-functional teams for investigations, studies and projects.

Technical specification and blueprint reading and understanding.

Detailed measurement and mathematical aptitude.

EPICS software experience an asset.

Project management experience an asset.
