Job Description
Kihew FabCo has an exciting opportunity for a Fabrication/Production/Shop Manager to join our team in Melville, Saskatchewan. Key Job Duties:

· Fabrication Manager provides leadership, guidance, and training in all fabrication areas. This includes, but is not limited to, equipment, software, and company policies and procedures.

· Trains on all digital and automated tools and equipment so as to train others to perform tasks safety and with quality in mind.

· Coordinates with team on a daily basis to ensure the highest level of customer service and on-time delivery are maintained.

· Ensures that the highest standards are maintained for safety, housekeeping, and compliance with all government and company standards.

· Fabrication Manager leads continuous improvement projects as assigned by manager.

· Works with the manager to troubleshoot all fabrication issues to find the cause, help resolve the issue, and prevent reoccurrence.

· Conducts standard metrics reporting as assigned by manager.

· Manages resources and consumables.

· Provides coverage of additional assigned responsibilities in manager’s absence.

· Handles additional tasks necessary to fulfill the needs of the company and the customer as deemed by the manager.

· Supervises assigned employees, including assessing and planning for overtime needs.

· Assures that the highest standards are maintained for safety, housekeeping, and compliance with all company and government standards, policies, procedures, and practices.

· Reports all safety, product, machine maintenance, and manpower issues and needs to Operations Manager in a timely manner, and provides resolutions.

· Monitor daily machine maintenance and perform basic equipment set-up functions.

· Monitor production schedule and resolve potential problems.

· Works closely with Quality Control Manager to perform quality control operations, and report results of quality audits to Operations Manager.

· Fabrication Manager performs a variety of fabrication tasks as required by production needs, including operating powered and manual material handling equipment, loading and unloading pipe, and operating powered and/or manual banding equipment as needed to ready pipe bundles for shipment.

· Provide support in planning, coordinating, scheduling, and assisting with project controls.

· Assist with onboarding, including documentation and compliance.

· Assist with safety requirements including drug and alcohol pre-access testing, safety courses and ticket tracking.

· Perform general administrative and recordkeeping functions including the review and distribution of documentation; maintenance of files, logs, drawings and specifications, timesheets and drafting invoices

· Support the (sub) contract management process: tender and award work or material supply; review and process invoices and progress claims, and assistance with the review of documents and inquiries.

· Assist with preparing time tickets and progress status reports.

· Facilitate the tracking of project milestones and financial deadlines; assistance with the creation of the project schedule; inputs and updates schedule throughout the project and review with Project Manager.

· Coordinate the request for information (RFI) process, ensures RFIs are distributed to affected trades and maintains RFI logs and binders.

· Prepare purchase requisitions for approval and assists with procurement of materials and equipment.

· Monitor daily, weekly and monthly labour, equipment, material and subtrade costs.

· Assist with the drawings, drawing records, revisions, site instructions and change order.

· Maintain all QA/QC documentation, maintains records of all testing and inspections.

· Ensure that all work is completed accurately (i.e. survey).

· Assist with the completion of estimates, estimate reviews and costing.

· Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

· Minimum 5 years of related industry experience.

· Experience in project management and construction is an asset.

· Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role, preferably manufacturing.

· 4-yr degree in related field or 2-yr degree with equivalent experience preferred.

· Demonstrated excellent communication skills, including ability to express well-reasoned, independent thought.

· Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, in a socially integrative and training environment

· PC proficiency at an intermediate level, min.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form.
  • Knowledge of General construction processes: project set up; subcontract management; change orders; RFIs (request for information); lien holdbacks; closeout.
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to contribute actively in team activities, sharing experiences and ideas
  • Ability to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion
  • Proven track record of project coordination and team collaboration

Working Conditions:

  • Office/Shop-based with occasional travel to project locations.

Kihew is seeking an experienced manager to oversee its Fabrication Facility in Melville, SK. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on manager that enjoys working with welders, fabricators, painters, sand blasters, welding repair technicians, and general staff.

The Fabrication Manager is responsible for working with the Operations and Project Managers to manage all activities on the shop floor related to production and quality control and ensure delivery schedules are met while controlling labor costs. The Fabrication Manager monitors production output on a daily basis to make sure production standards are met, contributes to maintenance of production equipment, and is responsible for employee discipline and day-to-day operations. We are also fashioned towards scalability and innovation and look forward to onboarding ambitious personnel with these same objectives.
