We are seeking a full time Fabricator Lead Hand to join our Winnipeg Branch. As directed by the department manager the Lead Hand assists in coordinating activities of workers engaged in fabricating products such as doors, frames, hardware accessories for custom job order and delegates requirements as specified on job order. In addition, the Lead Hand is responsible for the accurate fabrication and assembly of all products that are put through our production facility with a focus on high quality and accuracy of orders.

Duties

Interprets work orders and templates, schedules and coordinates activities with other work units or departments

Liaisons with the applicable supervisors and coordinators

Assists in providing direction and instruction to staff in a professional and respectful manner

Assists in organizing and coordinating the workflow for the welders and any shortage of materials in the shop

Maintains all shop office procedures which include filing, take-offs and ordering of supplies

Assists in resolving work-related problems and prepare and submit progress and other reports to the department manager

Proficient in all pertinent areas of the computerized order entry system

Transports raw material and finished products using a forklift

Assists in training workers in job duties, safety procedures and company policies or send to applicable person for training

Quality control measures should be communicated and verified at each stage of production

Follows all safety policies including wearing appropriate safety attire at all times

Ensures a clean work area and equipment

Operates equipment such as welders, grinders, jigsaws, drills, drill presses, punches as well as various hand tools

Fabricate and assemble Frames, Screens, Doors, Lockers, white boards, chalk boards and tack boards

Operate appropriate manufacturing and fabrication tools as required to complete assigned tasks

Install glass in doors, frames and borrowed lites

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and work Environment

Mainly in a welding fabrication shop

Sitting for irregular periods while working with standard office equipment

Irregular periods of time focused on a computer screen

Lifting of supplies and materials up to 80 lbs.

May be required to go to external job sites

Moderate lighting and variable temperature

Standing/sitting/bending frequently throughout the work day

Exposed to moderate to extreme noise levels (hearing protection mandatory)

Ability to read templates and work orders

Physical strength and stamina

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent communication skills both written and oral

Ability to get along with co-workers- strong interpersonal relational skills

Mathematical and mechanical aptitude

Sound understanding of the hardware and door industry

Education and Experience Required

Minimum 3 years’ experience

Experience in reading job orders and technical specifications

Welding experience required

Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Work, Outlook etc.) and Navision

Forklift operator experience (Company will license)
