The Black Mountain Irrigation District (BMID) has an immediate opening for a Fabricator/Maintenance worker.
This is a full time, permanent, unionized position, with compensation as outlined in the BMID/CUPE Local 338 Collective Agreement, set at $36.21 per hour. A comprehensive benefit package is offered once the 6 month probationary period has been completed.

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Works Foreman, the Fabricator/Maintenance worker will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled assignments pertaining to the operation, maintenance and repair of the District’s infrastructure and equipment. The duties of this position are generally split between fabrication/shop work and general maintenance/labor. A strong mechanical aptitude and skillset will be considered an asset.
Additionally, under the direction of the Works Foreman, the Fabricator/Maintenance worker is responsible for adhering to the District’s procedures, policies and bylaws.
Incumbents will work both as a member of a team and independently. Normal hours of work for this position are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday inclusive.

FABRICATOR/MAINTENANCE WORKER
Classification Summary
The Fabricator/Maintenance person assists in maintaining and repairing all aspects of the water distribution system and treatment facilities. They fabricate and repair metallic components related to BMID’s equipment, infrastructure, and facilities. Performs manual work.
Duties
Proficiently welds and fabricates steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel components
Sourcing and ordering of fabricating related materials
Assists in the design of new components to be fabricated
Assists in specifying and ordering shop equipment
Maintaining and organizing a functional shop
Assists in operating, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment and infrastructure
General assistance to operators on water system repairs, maintenance, and installations
General labour duties required to maintain the water distribution and treatment facilities. Uses hand tools and small equipment.
Watershed monitoring and maintenance
Credentials
Experience in welding and fabrication
BC Driver’s License – Class 5
Ability to clearly communicate with other staff and public
