Overview

Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials as specified by work orders, blueprints, sketches, charts or other forms of instructions. May lay out and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops complete understanding of contract plans and specifications by thoroughly reviewing drawings, blueprints and P&IDs from Pipefitters, Piping Designers and/or customers.

Takes or reads measurements to plan layouts and procedures.

Assists in the assembly of all types of piping systems, supports and related equipment, in accordance with those plans and specifications.

Determines the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.

Sets up components for welding according to specifications (i.e. cuts material with power saw to match measurement)

Operates shop equipment and tools (i.e. band-saw, drills, grinders, etc.) to prepare the parts that must be welded.

Operates appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.

Aligns components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamps pieces.

Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).

Inspects welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws, removes bad welds and takes other corrective action, if necessary.

Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.

Operates overhead crane, forklift, lift trucks or hand trucks to move skid and/or related parts to proper work area.

Maintains clean and organized work area ensuring aisles, doorways, fire extinguishers, breaker boxes, etc. are clear from debris and equipment.

Communicates with co-workers, management, customers and others in a professional and courteous manner.

Conforms to all safety rules and uses appropriate safety equipment, if any.

Work Environment

This job operates in a warehouse-type environment where the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The temperature is usually moderate, however, the employee may occasionally be exposed to extreme cold and heat. This role routinely uses standard measuring equipment, levels and squares, drills, power saws, grinders or other hand tools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to write and manipulate a variety of hand tools. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear; stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to work at heights reaching 6’ – 10’. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. One 15 minute break, and a half hour lunch break. Occasional overtime work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Local travel may occur occasionally; overnight or out of town travel on rare occasion.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, use simple math and interpret documents such as safety rules and maintenance instructions.

Proficient in MIG, TIG and Stick welding of various types of materials (carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum).

Preferred Education and Experience

Working knowledge of pipe fitting techniques and methods.

Ability to work with carbon steel, stainless steel and other metals.

Proficient in the use of bevellers, threaders, measuring equipment, levels, squares and various hand tools.

Additional Eligibility Preferred Qualifications

Forklift, hand and/or lift truck experience.

Overhead crane experience.

Certified in 6G 2” both carbon and stainless steel.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
