Job Description

The City of Glenn Heights is seeking applicants for a Field Supervisor.

The Field Supervisor, under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, manages and oversees crews responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the city right-of-ways and beautification efforts.

Typical Duties

Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.

Assists in managing and oversight of the city’s park system including maintenance of parks, right-of-ways; supervises the city’s beautification efforts; supervises and oversees crews responsible for maintenance, lawn care and beautification of the city’s parks and right-of-ways;

Performs the duties of Groundskeepers, as required, including but not limited to: operates landscape equipment such as trimmers, zero turn radius lawn mowers, tractors, weed-eaters, augers, tillers, tree spades, chippers, stump grinders, welders, chainsaws, vehicles, and other light to heavy equipment; Plants, cultivates, prunes, and removes trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.; fertilizes trees; selects and shapes trees; treats for insects; and waters and mulches trees

Collects and disposes of trash in mowing areas, right-of-way areas, median areas, parks, and City buildings

Assists in training, assures quality standards and that best practices and methods are performed by the crews and makes recommendations to the Superintendent on how to make the crew function more efficiently

Works safely in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic along medians, right-of-way, and city property; ensures the same for maintenance crew

Adheres to and ensures maintenance crews adhere to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures – gives daily safety briefings to the crews and holds and documents attendance to monthly safety training meetings

Informs supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, and inquiries of the general public and work activities

Maintains and inspects playground and park equipment regularly and assures that all repairs and inspections are documented

Maintains daily work orders, daily work logs, and monthly reports as needed

Prepares and maintains athletic facilities, as needed; installs and removes goals and nets, and maintains athletic equipment and supplies

Performs inspections and preventative maintenance (including washing, checking and servicing) all equipment and vehicles

Supervises and assists in set up and clean-up for special events and functions

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent, and

A minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience working in commercial landscape, general maintenance or related field, or

Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position

Licenses and Certifications:
Texas Class “C” Driver’s License

Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within six (6) months

The incumbent performs work in both an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to hazardous and unpleasant conditions in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, and toxic hazards

Work requires frequent stooping and climbing, lifting 100 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, twisting, pulling, pushing, climbing up to 12 feet, and working in tight or confined areas

The incumbent may be required to walk through brush or entangled areas along creeks and other areas and in close proximity to high speed vehicle traffic such as medians

Required to work some nights and weekends, during extreme weather and/or emergency situations and may be on-call
