Overview

Job Purpose:

The Field Tester will provide welder test witnessing services to CWB clients who are applicant or certified to CSA welding standards. These services may also be provided to unions and accredited testing centres.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Witness welder, operator and tacker tests at client facilities and be present during all welding of test assemblies.
  • Review all reports created with the client, ensuring they are thorough and accurate.


Education and Experience:


Education Level

  • Secondary School.
  • Apprenticed Welder Status or
  • Welding Engineering Technician/Technologist.


Majors/Specialties

  • Technical background and knowledge of the welding and joining industry.


Type of Experience

  • Knowledge of welding and testing standards.
  • Practical Welding, Welding Inspector, Educator/Trainer or
  • Welding Supervision.


Years of Experience


Other

  • Certified W178.2 Level 2 Inspector.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating environment.
  • A valid driver’s license in the province of employment and your own vehicle are mandatory and travel is required.


Responsibilities:


Delivery of Welder Testing Service

  • Witness welder, operator and tacker tests at client facilities and be present during all welding of test assemblies.
  • Communicate test instructions to client representative (e.g. welding supervisor) and the candidates prior to the testing experience.
  • Record all testing details either electronically using PC Tablet system or on paper-based records.
  • Visually assess the test assembly in accordance with the testing standard, both during welding and upon completion.
  • Advise the client as to their options for evaluation.
  • Evaluate bend/macro/fracture coupons in accordance with the testing standard.
  • Review all reports created with the client, ensuring they are thorough and accurate.


Administrative/Other Duties

  • Synchronize PC Tablet data with the central database at the end of each day.
  • Submit all paperwork (e.g. 120’s, expense reports, etc.) to the CWB office at the end of each week.

Safety Requirements

  • Read and comprehend the CWB Group OH&S Management System.
  • Comply with all aspects of the CWB Group OH&S Management System.
  • Report all accidents to manager, using CWB Form 1018.
  • Report all near misses / incidents to manager using CWB Form 1017.
  • Report all hazards to manager using CWB Form 1017, which you feel are not addressed by the CWB Group OH&S Management System.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Maintain/replace personal protective equipment as required.
  • Attend safety talks at departmental/operational meetings.
