Overview

Job Description

  • Perform scheduled jobs by following plans; blueprints or other written instructions.

· Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand tools.

· Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture.

· Direct electrodes on or across metal workpieces to melt, bend or straighten them

· Mount and secure workpieces on production equipment using cranes, hoists, or banding machines.

  • Report defective equipment and identify appropriate defective equipment and inform general assembly lead.
  • Administer various components and fabricate according to specifications.
  • Perform MIG, TIG and other types of weld based on project needs.
  • Field install welds, metal sheeting and other parts.
  • De-bur and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.

· Utilize plasma, gas, or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together.

· Heat and dissolve metal parts to obtain molten substance used in welding or extrusion.

· Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.

· Cut, prep and load parts and materials for jobs.

· Use power saws, chipping knife and hand shears in cutting, beveling, and contouring metal workpieces.

· Operate forklift.

· Complete and submit daily work log.

· Provide support in other cross-function roles as needed.

Qualifications/Skills

· Using hand tools, flame-cutting torches or machines to make, cut, shape, weld, bend, repair or join components

· Examining components and parts for faults and mistakes in order to remedy problems before faulty products are produced

· Ability to read a tape measure

· Proficient in English

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

· Two years’ experience operating as an apprentice or on the job training in metal structural steel or welding

· Current and valid certification a plus

· Experience working in production sites and with power tools

· Knowledge of best practices and safety procedures
