Overview
JOB PURPOSE
A General Machinist is responsible for completing internal detail work using manual equipment and other forms of equipment, while supporting all other areas on the shop floor, to ensure high performance and production at all times for quality and on-time delivery of equipment. Other duties include all items listed below.
2.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – DAILY / WEEKLY – (As required)
Following the documented Manufacturing / Fabrication Process; Work with all departments to support a successful, quality project launch to on time completion by:
· Read and interpret Engineering drawings/blue prints and follow detailed verbal and/or written instructions,
· Use other basic machinery equipment (manual), tools and measuring equipment, independently or with basic supervision
· Work independently to set up, monitor and maintain multiple machines / jobs coincidingly.
· Work using Manual lathe turning, Bridgeport(s), bandsaw.
· Welding Exp. and asset
· Assembly of Fixtures or large scale equipment fabrication an asset.
· Utilize other machines including: I.D / OD Cylindrical Grinding, Jig Grinder, Surface Grinder.
· Set-up, prep, clean machines in a safe manner in accordance to Company policies,
· Focus on continual improvement and suggest improvements on jobs for cost and timing improvement impacts,
· Write up work reports, when required for hand off, internal / external
· Adhere to ISO9001:2015 standards and follow Health and Safety rules, regulations and policies.
· Additional duties and responsibilities as requested
· Monitor equipment and ensure that they are in good working order; report to Management when repairs are required.
· Follow equipment maintenance schedule daily and per set schedule as directed by Management.
· Maintains safe and clean work environment
· Support to continuous improvement through suggestions, recommendations and constructive discusstions.
3.0 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist with all areas on shop floor as workload shifts.
· Clean Shop Floor or other areas as requested, as necessary.
· When necessary, receive all/any delivered products in accordance to the SMI Automation RECEIVING process and notify the Shipping & Receiving Coordinator of delivery.
· Other duties as requested

· Ability to keep a cool head to overcome obstacles/think outside the box while meeting tight deadlines
· Ability to work with all departments with good communication and organizational skills, providing support to other departments and acts as the primary interface between company and its’ suppliers
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR REVIEW DURING INTERVIEW
5.0 EDUCATION
· High School Graduation Diploma or Equivalent – preferred
· Post Secondary Diploma / Trade Certificate – As Asset
6.0 TRAINING
· Health & Safety Training – an asset
· Fork Lift / HiLo Training – an asset
7.0 EXPERIENCE
· Minimum 5 years’ previous experience within a manufacturing setting – an asset
8.0 WORKING CONDITIONS
· Capable of working a consistent schedule (minimum of 40+ hours per week)
· Perform tasks in multi-temperature environments.
· Valid Driver’s license.
9.0 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to lift up to a minimum of 50lbs or more.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $17.00-$25.00 per hour
