Overview

SMS Equipment is seeking a Mechanical and Welding General Supervisor who will organize, direct, and supervise the Mechanical and Welding Services function of the branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety policies, CWB procedures and regulations, as well as Mechanical and Welding procedures and regulations, developing standards and procedures, scheduling, cost control, and workforce planning.

The shift rotation for this position is 7×7.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 – $130,000 plus incentives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.

Ensures functional area safety and environmental controls in job execution.

Provides leadership and guidance to Mechanical and Welding employees.

Coach, mentor and support the proper training of all reporting employees.

Direct employees in establishing, prioritizing, and maintaining service schedules within established policy, procedures and budgets, and according to customer needs.

Maintain staff by participating in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of employee and developing personal growth opportunities.

Coordinate Mechanical and Welding services within the branch and Field Services locally as well as in remote locations, utilizing a wide variety of equipment, methods, and standards.

Ensure shop and field activities are conducted within safety, quality, productivity, and cost standards.

Drive continuous improvement within the branch.

Monitor established performance indicators including variance reports, production reports, quality reports, and injury reports.

Exhibit a professional manner in working with others and provide conflict resolution and claim settlements.

Market the service department and prepare customer quotations.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years previous leadership experience and a minimum of 5 years experience as a qualified journeyperson in a relevant trade. Other requirements include:

Experience in heavy equipment industry is considered an asset.

Experience coaching and mentoring employees.

Experience setting priorities, scheduling work and communication of short term and long-term goals.

Previous experience working with budgets and the ability to manage costs effectively.

Capable to conduct independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of service best practice.

Previous experience working with a unionized work force considered an asset.
