JOB TITLE:

Group Leader, Weld

ABOUT US:

We are a climate controlled Japanese Automotive Parts Manufacturer in the St. Thomas, ON region and are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and qualified Group Leader, Weld to fulfil the roles and responsibilities pertaining to assisting with the supervision of operations in the welding department. We are looking for someone with supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment, and who demonstrates strong planning and organization skills in order to effectively execute daily position requirements. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of manufacturing experience within a supervisory role, have a strong understanding of machine welding operations, and be able to demonstrate proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and communication skills to carry out programs directed toward fulfillment of business objectives. Further, the successful incumbent will work daily with the Team Members and work towards meeting company objectives, including efficiency improvements, development of training regimes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide a safe work environment and ensure that all Team Members are adhering to both the government legislative and internal H & S policies and regulations.

2. Directly assist with the supervision of the Team Leaders and Team Members.

3. Interpret company policies to Team Members and enforce safety & environmental regulations.

4. Provide leadership and guidance to the Team Members so that they meet their efficiency quota target requirements.

5. Work with the Team Leaders on strategies to improve the Team Members performance through the implementation of advanced manufacturing practices, error-proofing and enhanced training.

6. Ensure that all company rules and procedures are properly followed at all times.

7. Improve quality performance through process control, training, and enforcement of work instructions.

8. Ensure that all production documentation is checked for completeness on a daily basis.

9. Champion all safety and quality related issues specific to department Team Members providing information and evidence related to the root cause analysis and recommended counter measures.

10. Provide training on fault re-setting and troubleshooting to improve quality through weekly meetings at machines.

11. Participate in bi-weekly Kaizen meetings and provide annalistic details on improvement initiatives with the intent that this process improves the Team Members daily job and allows the members to perform their task safer and more efficiently.

12. Assist with developing video presentations on all press processes to improve overall weld operations.

13. Provide Team member mentoring, counseling, and positive re-enforcement training as required.

14. Analyze processes and procedures and develop C/M’s and solutions to problems.

15. Develop and review standard work charts/procedures to ensure that the process are well defined and that the Team Members have the proper training to perform their job safely and efficiently.

16. Provide training from orientation to advanced troubleshooting on both weld and press machines.

17. Analyze and resolve work problems/issues by providing directions or conflict resolution to Team Members.

18. Assist with Team Leader and Team Member performance evaluations and assessments.

19. Assist Team Leaders and Supervisors in daily scheduling and prioritizing machines.

20. Monitor daily manpower requirements and inform Team Leader(s) of any vacations and/or absences.

21. Attend the Team Leader meeting(s) and provide shift updates, quality issues, and review safety concerns as required.

22. Assist with the evaluation and review of certifications (new and renewals) for Sr. Machine Operator, Weld Setup Operator, and make required recommendations.

23. Perform accident investigation and complete incident reports.

24. Maintain Just-in-Time manufacturing processes and ensure correct shipments are made to customers.

25. Recommend Kaizen changes/improvements in working conditions, use of equipment and shop floor efficiencies.

26. Understand and work to maintain Parts Per Million (PPM) and Kanban issues Per Million (KPM) goals.

27. Conduct daily 4S audits to ensure that regular 4s is being maintained.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE SKILLSET:

1. Train-the-trainer certified in L/O/T/O, crane, forklift, accident investigation.

2. Certified JHSC level 2 and experience supporting JHSC committee.

3. Advanced Manufacturing experience with respect to time studies, value stream mapping, process improvement, line balancing, risk assessment, project management and work sampling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent GED

2. Minimum 2-5 years of manufacturing experience with demonstrated supervisory, planning, and organization skills

3. Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and communication skills to carry out programs directed toward fulfillment of business objectives

4. Knowledge of machine welding operations

5. Post-secondary education in engineering or business an asset

SCHEDULE:

1. Full-Time, Monday – Friday

SHIFT:

2. Two (2) week rotational cycle including occasional O/T requirements that may be required during the week and/or on weekends
