The Opportunity

Location: Fort MacKay, Alberta

We are hiring Hand Welders with B-Pressure to join our Imperial Oil Kearl project team on site near Fort MacKay, Alberta. This is a full-time permanent position; Shift schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off, 11.5 hours per day.

This is a fly-in/fly-out position and as such will be subject to the Government of Canada’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements:

As per Federal guidelines, as of December 1st, 2021, anyone who is to board a charter flight must be able to provide proof of full vaccination (+14 days). Please ensure you bring proof with you to the flight center and allow for at least 2 hours prior to flight departure. Additionally, anyone accessing the Imperial Oil Kearl Site will also require full vaccination (full course plus 14 days) required on or before February 15, 2022.

What Will You Work On?
Welders join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment. Welders develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders, as well as clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch and welding parts together

Responsibilities:

  • Be skillful in the fusing of metals using prescribed welding applications
  • Have working knowledge of the welding equipment involved with the various welding procedures
  • Comprehend drawings and develop layout patterns for projects and calculate quantities of materials
  • Have thorough knowledge of metals, arc electrodes, welding gases and gas welding filler rods
  • Recognize defective welds; know the cause and proper procedure for the repair of the defective area
  • Have working knowledge of mathematics calculations pertaining to the welding trade
  • Have working knowledge of the required codes
  • Be familiar with the work of other trades people in affiliated trades
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with quality and production standards required by industry

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Journeyperson Certification and/or Interprovincial Red Seal
  • CWB tickets
  • Alberta B-Pressure ticket or equivalent if from another province
  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
  • First Aid – Standard Level Certification
  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection
  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Confined Space
  • Fit Test
  • Basic Rigging Certificate
  • Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Welding tickets and/or welder performance qualification testing required – as per AECOM Performance Qualification testing of welder’s guideline:
  • CWB-1: Mode: Manual, Class: F/H/Vu/O, Material: CS, Process: SMAW, Classification: S Electrode: F4
  • CWB-2: Mode: Semi-Automatic, Class: F/H/Vu/O, Material: CS, Process: FCAW, Classification: S

  • This is a fly in, fly out position. Travel to and from site is provided from either Calgary travel hub or Edmonton travel hub. Hires are expected to incur the cost of getting to one of the two travel hubs for each shift. Are you able to get to one of the two travel hubs for the start of each shift?
