Overview
Midwest Fabricators Ltd. provides custom metal fabrication, laser and plasma cutting, and welding services for industrial, commercial, and residential applications. We are proud members of the Canadian Welding Bureau, Manufacturer’s Health and Safety Association, Edmonton Construction Association, and West Edmonton Business Association. We are enrolled in the Partners in Injury Reduction program and were awarded a Certificate of Recognition for providing a safe workplace.
We are seeking a full-time Health and Safety Coordinator to promote safety attitudes and safe work practices, as well as manage, maintain and administer the Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, and environmental damage.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, maintain and administer the Health and Safety Program in collaboration with the Health and Safety Committee
- Provide required safety information to all new hires
- Identify safety training requirements, make recommendations to the Director of Human Resources, and schedule training as approved and required
- Identify and develop health and safety-related information, instruction and training as needed
- Conduct safety training within the scope of his/her experience and certification
- Complete internal audits as required
- Complete hazard assessments as required
- Coordinate with Director of Human Resources to maintain COR Certification
- Assist in the development, coordination, and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans
- Have some knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board regulations and policies, and submit forms as required
- Ensure appropriate and sufficient safety equipment is available to all employees
- Work closely with supervisors, employees, and contractors to ensure they comply with safety legislation while at work
- Coordinate the review of health and safety-related policies and procedures
- Monitor and advise on legislative changes relating to health and safety
- Provide information to employees on health and safety
- Be an active member of the Health and Safety Committee
- Prepare minutes for Safety Committee and Toolbox meetings
- Maintain all Health and Safety related documentation
- Maintain and increase Health and Safety training as required
Skills Required:
- Health and Safety Coordinator experience
- Health and Safety education
- Working knowledge of OH&S legislation
- Must be organized and have excellent time management skills
