Overview
Fort Garry Industries has an exciting opportunity for a Heavy-Duty Mechanic-Welder working out of our Regina branch. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Welder is required to perform a hybrid set of skilled tasks in the mechanical repair, welding and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders; however, the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform mechanical repairs on equipment.
Performs SGI Insurance repairs truck/trailer
Plan and Installation of new and added-on equipment. Example- Snowplow, sanders, dump boxes, cement mixers, decks ext.
Perform welding operations and repairs on equipment.
Ability to effectively use MIG, stick, and plasma equipment.
Ability to Air Arc
Clean, lubricate and perform maintenance work.
Complete accurate maintenance reports and documentation
Electrical and hydraulic diagnostics, and repair
Diagnose and repair mechanical defects in heavy duty equipment.
Adhere to workplace safety policies and regulations.
Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
Log in and out of work orders to track time and measure productivity.
Qualifications and experience:
Completion of vocational/technical training and certification in both welding and mechanical equipment repair
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform related repair/install.
Appropriate credentials, certifications, or equivalent experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Possess a valid driver’s license, preference given to 3A or 1A
Proven mechanical abilities in Truck/Trailer & Transport Repair, including diagnostics
Ability to work independently in a busy environment
Experience with routine or preventative maintenance operations
Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Able to work well under pressure
Strong attention to detail
Computer literate
Experience or familiarity with labor collection system, logging in and out of work orders to track time.
Work Conditions
Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
Travel to off-site locations may be required
Safety equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc. (tool and boot allowance available)
Overtime as required
Hazards associated with the trade
Able to work shiftwork.
