The Opportunity

We are hiring Ironworker Journeypersons to join our CNRL Albian project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a full-time temporary position supporting the Spring 2022 turnaround; Shift schedule is 24 days on, 4 days off or 6 days on, 1 day off.

This is a fly-in/fly-out position and as such will be subject to the Government of Canada’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements:

Depending on your Vaccination status, it is a requirement to follow these instructions.

  • Must be Fully Vaccinated (2 shots + 14 days) – Proof of vaccination and a rapid test done within 72 hours of travel (if you have been off CNRL site for more than 30 days)
  • Starting December 21st, CNRL has mandated that anyone accessing a CNRL facility must be fully vaccinated. Those who are not fully vaccinated will not be given access to site.

What Will You Work On?

Ironworkers fabricate, construct, and join scaffolding, structural steel buildings, bridges, ornamental ironwork, and pre-cast structures. They erect structural steel components, reinforce steel, and install conveyors and robotic equipment, sometimes performing reconstructive work on existing structures.

Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints and specifications to lay out the work
  • Unload and stack steel units so each piece can be hoisted as needed
  • Erect and install scaffolding, construction cranes, derricks and other hoisting equipment
  • Assemble rigging (cables, pulleys, hooks) to move heavy equipment and materials
  • Attach cables from a crane or derrick and direct crane operators with hand signals or radios
  • Position steel units, align holes and insert temporary bolts
  • Check the alignments and join steel parts by bolting or tack welding them with an electric arc process
  • Assemble and erect pre-fabricated metal structures
  • Select, cut, bend, position and secure steel bars or wire mesh in concrete forms to reinforce the concrete
  • Install ornamental and other structural metalwork such as curtain walls, metal stairways, railings and power doors
  • Unload and install pre-cast component

Minimum Requirements:

  • Journeyperson Certification and/or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) (Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09) Certification can be submitted if taken before January 2019)
  • Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection
  • Energy Safety Canada Certified Confined Space
