The Position: As we are expanding our field of operations, we are in need of more specialized and experienced people to join our team. The Journeyman Welder is responsible for welding and fitting equipment used in Direct Pipe and Microtunneling. This position is a part of the fabrication team who are responsible for the safe, technical, and economical execution of the company’s projects in the field. Experience with Micro Tunneling, Horizontal Direction Drilling (HDD), Auger Boring, or Direct Pipe trenchless installations is an asset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fitting and fabrication of unique structures

Fabrication, lay-out, grinding, and use of cutting torch

Welding and fitting to repair equipment and parts used in direct pipe installations, and microtunneling

Participate in tailgate meetings and safety inspections

Ensure applicable HSE standards set by the client and the company are followed and executed

Demonstrate leadership qualities and mentorship to apprentices

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge

Understand various welding practices and methods, and determine most suitable method for the task at hand (including air arcing, grinding, and cutting)

Previous experience with fabrication is a must

Ability to work independently

Fitting experience is a must

Ability to check for defects and shape component parts, using a cutting torch

Read and understand schematics, plans, and instructions, and engineered drawings to determine weld procedures

Ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints

Use of logic and various methods to solve difficult problems with effective and creative solutions

Qualifications

Education – Journeyman Welder / Fitter

Experience – Minimum 5 years of experience in welding and fitting, with experience in a welding shop

Relevant work experience with Microtunnel Boring Machines and trenchless technology is an asset

Certification – CWB certification may be required for certain projects

Successful candidates will be required to have the following safety tickets, training is available;

WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection

Drug and Alcohol clearance

Full Covid Vaccination is required for any remote work sites, this position is located in Calgary on a primary basis.

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.

Use of hands to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.

Occasionally requirement to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.

Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Good hearing – able to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites

Working in all weather conditions, inside and outside
