BASIC PURPOSE

  • To ensure all assigned welding or mechanical related tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner with a high level of quality, using safe work practices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES

  • Utilizes safe work practices and promote safety policies to others. Must maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Responsible for safe and conscientious use of equipment including forklift, skidsteer, telehandlers, scissor lifts, and power tools.
  • Experienced in material take offs.
  • Can read and understand blueprints and implement their directions.
  • Consistently provides high quality welds and work.
  • Experienced in safe methods of hoisting and rigging.
  • Able to teach and grow less experienced workers and apprentices.
  • Owns basic trade tools and takes care of company supplied tools.
  • Able to work occasional overtime during the week and weekends if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all business interactions and strives to meet customer needs in a creative and safe manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, good attitude and willing to learn.
  • Appropriate level of experience as welder or industrial mechanic.
  • Enrolled in Apprenticeship program. Journeyman status is an asset.
  • Possesses current first aid certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Understands welding principles and applies them.
  • CWB certificate – flat minimum, overhead preferred.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and maintenance of oxy-acetylene.
  • Knowledge and ability to assemble and commission mechanical systems is an asset.
  • Ability to install, examine, diagnose, and adjust various types of industrial and mechanical equipment is an asset.
  • Understanding of grain handling equipment, food plants, piping is an asset.
