The purpose of a Journeyman/Woman Welder includes, but is not limited to, executing fabrication projects in accordance to Trotter & Morton’s welding procedures, and working with other employees as part of a team. The Journeyman/woman Welder has a continual focus on safety, cost control, and customer satisfaction when performing the duties of the position

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW)
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Operate previously set up welding machines such as spot, butt and resistance or gas and arc welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of welding and soldering equipment
  • May adjust welding heads and tooling according to work specifications
  • Mentor and train apprentices
  • Must follow all company policies and procedures including Trotter & Morton’s Health and Safety program
  • Understand and follow company Quality Control Program
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Experience

Experience with SMAW/FCAW/MCAW/GMAW/GTAW welding is essential, other welding experience is an asset

Must possess a valid Alberta Journeymen/women Certificate with Interprovincial Red Seal in Welding is preferred

B-pressure Certification

Must have Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a pressure piping, vessels and fabrication environment
