Overview

Role

Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, the role of the Journeyman Electrician is to assist in the construction of the new build of E houses and control buildings. Under this role the Journeyman Electrician reads and interprets drawings, blueprints and electrical code specifications. The Journeyman Electrician is also responsible for planning layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on specifications. The Journeyman Electrician inspects electrical systems, components, and equipment to identify defects and to ensure compliance with codes.

Responsibilities

Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations, splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits.

Inspect and test installed electrical equipment and cabling with multimeters, meggers, etc.

Comply with Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.’s Health and Safety Manual and industry safety regulations.

Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring and training to Electrical Apprentices in understanding, identifying and resolving technical issues. Assist Electrician Apprentices with the day to day activities involved with substation construction including working in a safe and quality manner.

Ensure all electrical installations follow applicable regulations and trade practices.

Proficient in bending EMT conduit, experience with rigid steel, and rigid aluminum an asset.

Install AC/DC and control equipment -AC/DC panels, disconnects, transformers, battery banks and chargers, transfer switches.

Cable and Fiber tray installation

Adhere to Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.’s safety policies and safe work procedures and be familiar with the potential hazards of working near energized equipment.

Experience with prepping and terminating various types of cable – LV control cable, Teck, single conductor up to 500kcmil considered an asset.

Requirements

Valid and recognized Journeyman Electrician Certificate

Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a PSE/Electrician with at least 2 years of experience working in substations required

Thorough knowledge of the Electrical Utility Code (E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules as they relate to the Electrician role

Have a valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements

Must be able to work comfortably at heights
