APTIM is a Building Trades Union contractor that has opportunities for Journeyperson Welders at two major oil and gas sites in Fort McMurray, Alberta. We provide on-going support and long-term services through maintenance, modifications and specialty services to provide solutions that are safe, innovative and efficient. Our comprehensive range of maintenance and supporting services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client..
The Opportunity:
APTIM is seeking Journeyperson Welders, B Pressure Certified for short term work in the Fort McMurray region. Camp accommodations, meals and transportation to site will be provided.
- Union benefits (Dues required)
- Length of Employment – based upon project needs (approx. 2-6 weeks)
- Type of Work – Oil and Gas refinery / Shutdown work (coke drums, heat exchangers, process piping & vessel internals, reformer furnaces, pressure vessels)
- Hours of Work: 10-12 hour shifts (day/night shift available) – Overtime as per Union Agreement
- 6 on 1 off or 12 on 2 off schedule
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of pre-qualification weld test (Nisku)
- (2.5” Dia. XXS. Carbon steel. WPS 1.1C20 tig root, stick fill)
- Successful completion of company online / web-based onboarding & training
- Valid government issued photo identification
Qualifications:
- Alberta Journeyman Certificate, B Pressure
- CSTS-09/2020
- Half Mask Fit Test
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform welding and other related activities as assigned
- Clean welds and inspect for defects
- Follow and ensure compliance to all company policies and procedures
- Read, understand and follow written instructions, drawings and weld procedures
- Follow direction from field supervision and management
- Perform all work in accordance with safety, quality and efficiency standards
- Ensure safety for self and all others working in area
- Work well independently and as part of a larger crew
- Deliver high quality work to our clients
- Mentor and coach Apprentice Welders / helpers
- Interface with others, including client representatives, in a professional and respectable manner
- Efficiently coordinate manpower and equipment requirements for assigned work activities
Role Specifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Journeyman welder in an Industrial environment
- Industrial, mining or process plant shutdown experience is an asset
- Must possess either an Interprovincial Red Seal or a Journeyman Welding ticket from a recognized provincial training authority
- Must possess a valid Alberta B Pressure ticket
- Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS 09 or CSTS 2020) Certification
Mechanically inclined with a working knowledge of Specialty services such as:
- Automated welding
- Seal leaks and repair piping systems and vessels
- Hot tap and Cold cutting
- Control bolting
- Test and pipe isolations
- Heat Exchanger components
- Various process vessels, drums
- Reformer Furnace tube replacement
Skills:
- Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), in English
- Safety focused when it comes to people and equipment
- Enjoy working outdoors, even in harsh weather conditions
