Canadian Maritime Engineering is looking to hire a Junior QA/QC Welding Inspector (CWB Level 1) to join us at our dynamic team in Port Alberni. This is a great opportunity for someone who is wanting to take their career to the next level.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Your primary responsibility is to ensure fabrication activities are completed in accordance with client specifications, government regulations, and codes of construction.

Highlights of job duties include:

  • Observe work before, during and after welding to verify conformance with the construction code and customer specifications
  • Liaison with Technical Authority and third-party subcontractors
  • Monitor fabrication and assembly, ensure NDE is completed in accordance with client specifications, and witness and including any hydro test testing.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease rework, and streamline work processes
  • Participate in internal and external audits, health checks when required
  • Expect to spend approximately 50% of your time on the shop floor and the balance of the time in office completing deliverable documentation and updating electronic project folders
  • Ensure all welder testing is up to date and welders are qualified to carry out all applicable welding
  • Ensure all materials match the applicable build components, confirm that the correct welding consumables are being used
  • Ensure all welders are assigned welder ID’s and record all welding with a mapping system
  • Ensure all welders are adhering to the required welding procedures
  • Humidity level checks, parameter spot checks & fit-up checks when required

Here’s what we’re seeking in the successful candidate:

  • CSA 178.2 CWB Level 1 Welding Inspector certification
  • Code Endorsement 47.1 & 47.2 / W59.1 & W59.2 Certification would be an asset
  • A good understanding of quality inspection procedures, tools, and equipment
  • Strict compliance with our HSE program
  • Experience in visual inspection
  • Strong interpersonal skills. A positive and team-oriented approach to work. Dependable and trustworthy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, ability to work well under pressure.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, with the ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Bluebeam Revu 2017
