Job Title: Lab Technician With Welding Experience
Location: Dual Sites – One in Mendota Heights (60%), and the other in Maplewood, MN (40%).
Openings: 1
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Schedule: M-F Day Shift, 40 Hours
Pay: $28-$32/hr

Site 1 Details – Mendota Heights:

  • Responsible for the fabrication and teardown of test assemblies along with accompanying documentation of these processes as well as provide fabrication support for other one-off projects.
  • Technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the B60 machine shop and must have proficiency with the following equipment: Bridgeport vertical mills, machine lathe, drill press, belt sanders, vertical and horizontal band saws, and assorted workshop hand tools.
  • Technician must be proficient in TIG welding carbon and stainless steels.
  • Technician will be responsible for grinding and cutting operations using pneumatic tools within a downdraft table.
  • Technician will be responsible for management of machine shop, welding and teardown tooling and supplies.
  • Technician will be responsible for following written and verbal instruction for the fabrication of various assemblies and parts as well as providing documentation for test reporting and future analysis as outlined in those instructions.

Site 2 Details – Maplewood

  • DC Cleanup Efforts
  • Reduce DC inventory by scrapping any obsolete, expired, or unneeded materials
  • Call in pallets without birthdates to confirm age and scrap end of life materials
  • Work with individuals on pallets that have not been touched in 2+ years to determine if they are still needed
  • Work with resource recovery to send material directly from the DC to resource recovery when applicable to reduce material transport
  • Pilot Lab Inventory Refreshment
  • Order material from CSM, CG, 3M Korea, 3M China, 3M Poland & 3M Japan that is not currently in 9C but needed in hand for urgent prototype requests
  • Slit material to usable widths when needed
  • Supply inventory management
  • Zund spare parts/knife inventory management
  • Rapid Prototype Assistance
  • Assist in rapid prototypes needed from 9C
  • Z??nd cut parts
  • Tape parts
  • Slit rolls
  • Order materials/parts
  • Collect samples for testing
  • PM of the Z??nd
  • Part Cutting improvement – Z??nd POT material file optimization
  • Assist with development of optimized operating conditions with the new POT module
  • Optimize each material file for throughput increase at CSM

Requirements:

  • Proficiency with TIG welding
  • Ability to perform with minimal work direction
  • Must be highly skilled and knowledgeable to the position and ability to share best practices within work group.
  • Ability to perform chemical, biological, physical, and/or mechanical analyses and tests required for research, development, or quality control of processes and products.
  • Ability to assist with compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting results.
  • Ability to follow procedures and methods and to work well on a self-directed team is required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and skills as well as experience and specific training in inspection procedures and/or the product line are required.
  • Must be computer literate with good communication and time management skills

Preferred:

Experience in a lab or technical environment is preferred.
