Labourer II – Fabrication Technologies up to 11 months

As a Labourer II within the Fabrication Technologies section of Fleet Services, you will support operations by disseminating information from blueprints in order to cut, form and drill various materials for fabrication purposes. You will provide assistance to trades workers, use a variety of hand tools and machinery, and assemble fabricated items both in the shop and in the field.

Cut, form and drill various sizes and types of metals

Assist trades workers with various tasks

Assemble fabricated items made in the shop

Install and remove decals and striping to fleet vehicles

Assemble various items on job sites

Use a variety of hand tools, operate various pieces of equipment

Perform other related duties as required

Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications :
Completion of Grade 10

1 year of experience working in a fabrication shop and familiarity with fabrication shop operations

1 year of experience working with industrial shop tools and equipment, including power band saw, surface grinder, iron worker, drill press and using a blasting booth

1 year of experience handling and working with various types of steel

Experience with the installation and removal of vehicle decals and stripes

Current and valid Forklift Operating Certificate is an asset Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of municipal fleet vehicles

Knowledge of workplace safety practices

Physically able to perform the duties of the position, including heavy lifting

Ability to understand verbal and written instructions

‘Ability to read blueprints and maintain simple records

Ability to use the necessary hand and power tools for work assignments

A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position. Successful applicants will be required to submit a current drivers abstract

Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring (and being clean-shaven for proper equipment fit) is a requirement for this position)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday
