Overview

Position Summary

The Launch and Recovery Technician, Welder/Welding Inspector builds, maintains, and supports the launch and recovery systems of Spaceship Neptune with its nearly twenty million cubic foot Space Balloon. This position works closely with operations and engineering during the design, fabrication, testing, and operation of the world-class Space Balloon and Space Capsule.

Core Accountabilities and Essential Functions

Build, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair launch and recovery equipment.

Develop and implement operating procedures and instructions

Provide feedback on procedures and instructions for continuous improvement

Provide creative and innovative solutions to improve shipboard productivity.

Shipboard general maintenance

Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

Minimum high school diploma

Required Qualifications

Certified Welder, ABS, or equivalent, on structural steel plate, pipe, aluminum, copper, stainless steel OR

Certified Welding Inspector, ABS or equivalent

Capacity to work in a fast-paced, demanding, start-up environment with a dynamic and collaborative team.

Willingness and ability to work nonstandard shifts and weekends as needed during launch and recovery operations.

Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and in a small team when provided with written or verbal instructions.

Strong safety record and mindset, including hands-on experience with hazardous or critical tests and operations.

Ability to work offshore on maritime vessels supporting launch and recovery operations.

Desired Qualifications

Any mix of the following:
EMT, first aid, CPR

Low voltage experience

High voltage experience

Fluid tubing experience

Hydraulics experience

Small engine maintenance

Small boat piloting

Line handling

Small crane operations

Man lift/basket operations

Forklift, reach boom forklift, telehandler operation

Offshore experience

Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics such as fluid, electrical, and mechanical.
