ABOUT OUR COMPANY:

Stemz Inc. is a leader in Toronto’s exciting and fast-paced industry of Custom Event Design and Décor. Our breadth of work ranges from Master Floristry and Styling to Sculpture, Fabrication and Construction. We are a full service design house, offering consultation and design services, in-house fabrication, delivery and installation. Our work takes us all over the city to venues such as The AGO, The ROM, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Casa Loma, and The Rogers Centre, as well as a variety of hotels and Private Residences. We’re looking to expand our diverse and inclusive team of creatives by hiring a Lead Fabricator to join us in our Toronto-based Studio.

TITLE: Lead Fabricator

JOB PURPOSE: To lead in the construction and installation of large, pre-fabricated, architectural structures, interactive and immersive environments, modular furnishings, decorative ceiling installations, light features and prop fabrication.

REPORTS TO: Projects Manager of our Fabrication Department

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Utilize creativity and problem solving skills to collaborate with Projects Manager on Design Details and Production Procedures
  • Read through paperwork and working drawings presented by Projects Manager and create detailed To Do Lists, Pull Lists and Tool Kit Lists.
  • Utilize leadership skills to support Projects Manager in the delegation of tasks and direction of freelancers.
  • Utilize a variety of creative techniques to fabricate custom props and structures. Techniques include but are not limited to; structural carpentry; traditional woodworking, plastic and metal fabrication, rigging, machine sewing, upholstery and drapery, sculpting and pictorial and spray painting.
  • Monitor Woodshop Inventories and Advise Projects Manager as to Required Purchasing.
  • Oversee and Assist with Pulling of Materials, Packing of Tool Kits and Labelling of Carts for Load Out.
  • Lead and assist in on-site installations for events and weddings.
  • Assist with general cleaning, maintenance, and flow of shop and studio.
  • Support Driver with day to day deliveries, pick ups and set ups as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Required:

  • Ability to read and understand working drawings
  • Basic Understanding of Structural and Fine Woodworking
  • Experienced with Power Tools ( table, mitre, skill and jig saws, palm sander, nail guns, angle grinders, drills and drivers etc.)
  • Experienced with Hand Tools ( hammers, wrenches, pliers, clippers, exacto knives, etc.)
  • Experienced with regards to measurements and material calculations
  • Able to lift heavy objects and maneuver large items around a studio, woodshop, truck and venue
  • G Drivers Licence

Considered an Asset:

  • Basic Understanding of or experience in Metal working and Metal Fabrication
  • Basic Understanding of or experience in Plastics and Plastic Fabrication
  • Manual and Digital Drafting Skills
  • Basic Understanding of Drafting for CNC and Laser cutting
  • Experience with Rigging
  • Working at Heights Training Certificate
  • PEWP Training Certificate
  • CPR- C Certified
  • Experience Driving Trucks

Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week,

PLEASE NOTE: Week day and weekend work will vary each week. One week’s 40 hours may be contained within Mon -Fri, and the next week may require the candidate to work both Sat and Sun as well as 3 other days throughout the week.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $24.00-$27.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Rapid tests are often provided by the company as well as all PPE one might want. Masks are optional in our Office and Studio but sometimes required on site depending on the venue.
