We are currently looking for Lead Hand, Fabrication

General description of job: Coordinate and lead completion of orders and job lines passing through the Fabrication area. Working to execute the production schedule and with knowledge of metal fabrication and welding practices, leads a team of fabricators and welders to push orders through the department in a safe, productive and efficient manner. Requires the ability to manage through multiple orders and requirements, while ensuring that the team is working safely and efficiently. Strong forethought required to review schedule and ensure that product is flowing well to all areas / individuals within the team. Works with Assistant Plant Manager to execute all areas of Fabrication Production including labour, overtime, equipment, production planning and scheduling for the shift. Leads by example in driving all orders to completion in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Prior experience leading fabrication department within a sign manufacturing shop a definite asset

· Prior experience leading fabrication department within a custom job shop a definite asset

· Ability to read and interpret technical fabrication drawings and make suggestions as to more efficient ways to produce product

· Perform all tasks in a timely and economical manner

· Direct and coordinate the activities of the Fabrication team

· Work closely with other lead hands, management to coordinate orders through to timely completion and communicate effectively to necessary parties on any off schedule conditions

· Timely proactive trouble shooting to reduce the effect of off schedule conditions

· Maintain visual boards to ensure management staff have accurate visibility to movement of orders through the department

· Guides, supports, and ensures effective training of team members

· Other duties as required

Requirements:

· High school diploma or equivalent;

· 3+ years of lead hand experience;

· Proven ability to perform assigned tasks in a timely manner;

· Basic Computer skills;

· Experienced in sign fabrication.

· Welding license (47.2) an asset but not mandatory.

· Must be able to read technical drawings

· Use the required equipment and tools to form boxes and fabricate custom shapes.

· Should be familiar with extrusion systems

· Measure, cut and bend various types of sheet metal into appropriate sizes and shapes

· Operate computerized fabricating equipment such as shears, saws and presses

· Drill, anchor and install sheet metal parts according to product specifications

· Ability to lead a department and use positive influence to drive safe and efficient work habits in staff

· Ability to lift 50 lbs., walk, stand, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, climb, carry;

· Experienced leading a team of 6 to 8 people

This is a full-time permanent position, 44 hours per week plus overtime as required, with full benefits after the 2-month probationary period.
