Based in the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) facility, the Lead Person will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor in the Operations department. A Lead Person will be responsible for overseeing activities associated with manufacturing and production of products to meet production and customer requirements. The Lead Person will assist the Manufacturing Supervisor in planning, organizing, controlling and directing daily and weekly operations to ensure production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and meets all safety and quality standards.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Sets the example for team members on expectations, accountability and attitude.
  • Balances workload and assigns work to team members on a day-to-day basis to support work team and departmental objectives.
  • Balances and assigns work team priorities to best achieve production and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and monitors day-to-day tasks.
  • Schedules on-the-job training for work team members.
  • Leads and participates in process improvement initiatives as required for work team.
  • Monitors work activities to ensure safety practices, policies and procedures are followed.
  • Participate in safety program activities (e.g. safety committee, safety meetings).
  • Actively participate in employee meetings, as required (e.g. tool box meetings, etc.).
  • Ensure all products are meeting quality expectations.
  • Write Hold for Dispositions (HFDs).
  • Work closely with employees and/other departments to resolve production problems.
  • Communicate with the Engineering department regarding drawings and blueprints.
  • Oversee the training plan for new hires and communicate progress to Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Provide performance feedback as required.
  • Complete daily time data entry accurately and on time.
  • Lead special projects (i.e. – communicate, assign tasks; monitor progress, provide status updates).
  • Manage department supplies.
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements – Core Competencies:

  • Comprehension and understanding of shop drawings.
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System)
  • Changes priorities to meet changing demands; adjusts quickly to new responsibilities and tasks.

  • Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).

Qualifications:

  • Valid Provincial or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman’s Welder certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience, working as Journeyman in related structural steel fabrication.
  • FCAW all position and MCAW tickets are considered an asset.
  • MIG and TIG experience is preferred.
  • CWB Certification FCAW S-classification all position is required.
  • Overhead crane ticket is considered an asset (10-80 ton).
  • Forklift operation ticket is considered an asset (3000#-20000#).
  • Safety certifications are an asset for the position.
  • Have completed CWB Weld Supervisor Examinations required by CSA W47.1 and remain eligible for Weld Supervisor designation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, “A” frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
