Job Description:

Position: Lead Welder Fabricator

Reports To: Operations Manager

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

Salary: Starting at $33.50 per hour, depending on experience

Phoenix Steel Inc. is looking for an experienced Fitter Welder, to join our growing team.

The candidate will require a minimum of 10 years of experience in the fabrication of Miscellaneous Metals, Light to Medium Duty Structural Steel, and Custom Steel Fabrication.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Use standard shop tools & equipment, such as Measuring Tape, Grinders, Squares, Calipers, Oxy-Acetylene Torches, Ironworker, Bandsaws, Drill Presses etc.
  • Operate Overhead Cranes, Forklifts
  • Read & understand shop fabrication drawings with thorough interpretation of welding symbols
  • Identification, Layout, Fitting & Welding of both Miscellaneous Metals & Structural Steel Components as per shop drawings provided, using MCAW & GMAW welding processes
  • Report on any issues relating to fabrication, materials or equipment, and assist with resolution of these issues
  • Conduct in-process quality inspections, as well as on finished assemblies and check for conformity to shop drawings supplied
  • Identify, tag and prepare finished parts and assemblies for shipping
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Welding Shop, while mentoring & training junior Welder Fabricators
  • Maintain production schedules and ensure all critical deadlines are met
  • Work independently with minimum supervision, for a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Work flexible or overtime hours as required
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and make sure all tools, materials and equipment are shut down & put away after use
  • Work Safely and Responsibly, while following the Company’s Policies & Procedures

Requirements, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be a team player, and able to work well with others, with minimum supervision
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the fabrication of steel beams, columns, welded frames, stairs, railings, ladders etc.
  • Ability to identify various steel member shapes and sizes
  • Ability to employ various Fitting and Welding techniques to improve efficiency
  • Ability to work using both Metric and Imperial Units
  • Ability to use simple mathematical calculations for the Layout purposes
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of own Layout Tools and Welding Gear
  • Possession of current CWB welding tickets (Flat & Horizontal at a minimum)
  • Possession of own transportation for travelling to and from work, with a valid G-Class License and clean driving record
  • Ability to work overtime and occasionally Saturdays, if required
