Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Quality, the Level 1 Welding Inspector shall ensure adherence to all policies and procedures as specified in the Quality Manual and demonstrate a general knowledge of Welding Symbols, Welding Procedures, Fabrication Drawings, Visual Weld Inspection LPI and other Welding Quality Assurance Procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Perform visual inspections of final assemblies including welds, materials, flange faces etc.
Perform dimensional verifications and verification of material condition, grade, and specification to ensure compliance with drawings and/or other specific requirements.
Witness hydrostatic testing of piping and components, ensure the test remains within the specified parameters, and prepare final pressure test reports.
Review of technical documentation including pressure test reports, PWHT records, paint/coating reports, torquing/tensioning etc.
Confirms work quality, compliance, and work performance adherence to established standards and codes by conducting field observations, follow-up field audits, and weld monitoring.
NDE coordination including the identification of welds requiring NDE (percentages).
Review of NDE reports.
Monitor the control, issue, and storage of welding electrodes.
Review of welder qualifications.
Ensure that all relevant information has been captured including welding procedure used, welder ID, any variations from the original design etc.
Maintain quality documentation according to established quality manual and procedures.
Knowledge and Skills
Minimum 2 years experience in the construction industry as a Welding Inspector
CSA 178.2 level I or II with B31.3 endorsement (W47.1/W59/Sect. VIII/Sect.IX an asset)
Experience in reviewing isometric drawings
Knowledge of various codes of construction (ASME B31.1, B31.3 ASME Sec. VIII, CSA A23.1, CSA B51, CSA W47.1, CSA W59.)
Demonstrated computer software proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Strong customer service focus & problem solving skills
ISO knowledge is beneficial
Valid Class G Drivers License
API 510 & API 570 an asset
Technical Education (WET or MET) or Journeyman certification an asset
