Overview

Do you have what it take to build large scale metal tank heads?

TXRX Labs is interviewing clients during our Modern Manufacturing Training for multiple positions. Earn while you learn & interview for full-time work that starts at $18/hr.

Overview: TXRX Labs is a Workforce connector for the manufacturing sector. At our new facility, the East End Maker Hub, we bring together manufacturing companies utilizing both “traditional trades”: woodworking, welding, and manual machining – as well as “new technology” – digital design, CNC, robotics, additive manufacturing, and automation. We offer cutting edge manufacturing equipment and a uniquely talented staff to design products and build prototypes. And we work with employer partners to custom build job training programs to fill their need for skilled labor. Welcome to a new paradigm in manufacturing training.

Modern Manufacturing Internship is an entry-level training program designed to introduce skilled students to the various modalities of technology-driven manufacturing. Along the way, we hope to discover your hidden talents and passions. You will explore additive manufacturing and 3D printing, computer-aided drafting (CAD) and CNC Machining, metrology and quality inspection, electronics assembly and testing, and metal shop welding skills. We want to help you find what you love to do.

Stipend / Employment: To encourage you to take this leap and to help pay for gas and meal expenses during the internship, TXRX Labs offers a $20 daily stipend, paid the Friday of each week. Additionally, every week we arrange multiple interview sessions with local employers with the opportunity for immediate employment.

Outcomes: The goal following the training depends upon the student and the experience.

Some students are seeking immediate employment. Students will have multiple opportunities to apply and interview for jobs onsite during the training with our Employer Partners – local manufacturers with whom we do work, many co-located at the East End Maker Hub. These manufacturers are seeking workers with the skills listed above. We are hoping to find ideal matches for their growing businesses. They are currently hiring with wages varying between $15/hr and $18/hr.

Some students are seeking additional training in one of the Modern Manufacturing skillsets. TXRX Labs currently offers extended training programs:

  • True Machinist is a 26-week training in manual machining, CNC programming and operation, and quality inspection geared toward production and job-shop opportunities.
  • Electronic Specialist is a 5-week training providing certification in soldering, wire harness manufacturing, and testing that prepares students for a wide-range of electronic manufacturing roles.
  • Certified Quality Inspector is a 4-week standalone quality training focused on metrology, inspection, and quality assurance focused on quality manufacturing opportunities.

Training Supports: The training serves clients with some manufacturing experience who need to polish their resume, add professional certification, and gain awareness of new opportunities in the modern manufacturing landscape. The training also serves mechanically inclined students without manufacturing experience who want to explore the industry and discover their hidden talents. Every candidate will have the opportunity to study for and gain the OSHA 10 Safety Training Certification and upgrade their professional documents and communication by upgrading their professional resume and cover letter, and practicing for job interviews. The schedule for the technical training can be found on the back page:

Manufacturing Skills Training:

Week 1: Week 2:

Monday: 3D Printing Manual Milling + CNC Demo

Tuesday: Computer Aided Drafting Metrology + Inspection

Wednesday: Industrial Metalshop Electronics Assembly + Testing

Thursday: Welding (continued) TBD

3D Printing

  • 3D Printing is a powerful tool in rapid fabrication and prototyping.
  • Participants will be given an overview of 3D Printing technologies and FDM 3D Printer operation:
  • By the end of this hands-on workshop, participants will have prepared and loaded their own designs for 3D Printing and learned how to operate numerous 3D Printers.

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)

  • CAD is a powerful tool for creating digital models that can then be executed on automated machines, including: 3D Printers, and an array of CNC machines: Laser Cutters, Plasma Cutter, Mill and Lathe.
  • By the end of the workshop, students will have a strong understanding of the Fusion360 interface and understand how to turn 2-dimensional sketches into 3D bodies and assemblies.

Industrial Metalshop and Welding

  • Master metal fabrication with this workshop for beginners.
  • MIG welding (GMAW) is one of the easiest and versatile welding processes, perfect for working with materials up to ⅜” when producing sculptures, furniture, mechanical assemblies, etc.
  • Class will cover welding safety, machine setup, tack welding, MIG theory, laying beads, groove and fillet welds, along with basic weld inspection and troubleshooting.

Manual Milling

  • This class covers the safe and proper use of the Bridgeport type vertical Milling Machine.
  • We cover the use of proper clamping, indicating, parallels, work stops, milling, and drilling.
  • We will teach you the difference between end mills, chamfer tools, drills, and more.

Quality Inspection

  • Learn the basic principles of metrology (the science of measuring), inspection, and quality assurance.
  • Students will learn to read blueprints, use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Advanced students will learn to use bore gauges, the TESA height gauge and optical comparator.
