The Opportunity

We are hiring dual ticketed Machinist / Welder Journeypersons to join our Imperial Oil Kearl project team on site near Fort MacKay, Alberta. This is a full-time permanent position; Shift schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off.

This is a fly-in/fly-out position and as such will be subject to the Government of Canada’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements:

As per Federal guidelines, as of December 1st, 2021, anyone who is to board a charter flight must be able to provide proof of full vaccination (+14 days). Please ensure you bring proof with you to the flight center and allow for at least 2 hours prior to flight departure.

Additionally, anyone accessing the Imperial Oil Kearl Site will also require full vaccination (full course plus 14 days) required on or before February 15, 2022.

What Will You Work On?

Responsibilities

  • Overhauling & maintaining various types of large open cut mining equipment
  • Onsite line boring operations and surface milling procedures on all makes and models of open cut mining equipment
  • Possess the ability to provide bore surveys and condition reports to ‘bores and bushings’
  • Workshop and field-based machining operations on a wide variety of earth moving components to tight tolerances (such as +/- .0005” in most cases)
  • Blueprint reading
  • I.D bore welding and bore reclamation; face build ups and machining to OEM
  • Use of liquid nitrogen to assemble and fit various components
  • Onsite maintenance including but not limited to: Caterpillar & Komatsu haul trucks, track dozers, graders, front end loaders, excavators and shovels

Minimum Requirements:

  • Mobile field machining required for this position, ability to move between HD shops working on various types of mine equipment
  • Journeyperson Certification in the Machinist trade
  • Journeyperson Certification in the CWB welding trade
  • Valid CWB FCAW ticket
  • Able to use hands skillfully and quickly
  • Able to fully set up and run a BORETECH welder
  • Excellent mechanical ability
  • Able to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately
  • Able to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle items weighing up to 25 kilograms
  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification
  • First Aid – Standard Level Certification
  • Fit Test
  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract

Preferred

  • Overhead Crane and Rigging
  • Basic Rigging
  • A keen eye for detail, presentation and craftsmanship in bucket rebuilds, repairs and refurbishments, dump bodies, blades, fabrication and other welding related duties on mining equipment
  • Significant post-trade experience with heavy earth moving equipment; including but not limited to: Caterpillar, Komatsu and Hitachi
  • Experience with CLIMAX portable equipment
