Location: Dartmouth, NS

Reporting to: Shop Foreperson

Shift: Monday – Thursday from 2 pm to Midnight, & Fridays from 2 pm – 6 pm

Miller Waste Systems Inc. has been in operation since 1961. Miller is a leader in waste management and diversion, providing governments and industries with a wide range of services in the provinces of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba. Miller has over 50 years’ experience in the waste management sector, and currently operates out of more than 30 locations. This position will be located out of our facility in Dartmouth, NS.

In the position of Fabricator & Utility Person, your primary role and key responsibility of this position is to address all welding and fabrications needs on all MWS fleet, while maintaining, repairing, refurbishing waste collection receptacles to comply with Miller standards. This position reports directly to the Shop Foreperson. You will ensure and reinforce a positive work environment and high-performance team culture to deliver superior customer service.

Responsibilities

In the position of Fabricator & Utility Person your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Apply techniques and standards in grinding, sanding, paint touch ups, as well as power washing, buffing/polishing stained or faded areas on fleet and receptacles
  • Make sure containers are available for scheduled deliveries on a daily bases to meet the requirements of the sales team
  • Coordinate pickup and delivery of receptacles for special events
  • Liaise with Shop Team, Operations Supervisors and Drivers in a professional and team-oriented manner
  • Ensure that the shop and surrounding grounds are clean and organized at all times.
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely, cost effectively and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all equipment, vehicles and work areas are in compliance with all safety policies and regulations at all times
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned

Requirements

  • The successful applicant will be comfortable with prioritization, planning, coordination, and organization, with an ability to respond and adapt in changing, high pressure environments.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Welding Certification would be considered an asset
  • Mechanically inclined and basic knowledge of hand tools, with preference given to those with related experience
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and grow with experience
  • Computer knowledge and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and adaptable attitude along with attention to detail is a must
  • You must also be able to work with minimal supervision and be an active and effective team player
