Applications accepted from: ALL PERSONS INTERESTED Division/Section: Bush Intercontinental – Infrastructure MaintenanceWorkdays & Hours*: Shift work, including rotation, weekends and holidays (*Subject to change)DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to effectively manage the Houston Airport System (HAS) infrastructure by establishing and maintaining asset management standards and effectively executing capital renewal and rehabilitation projects.The purpose of this position is to prevent mechanical failure of equipment, to identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain several types of equipment: pumps, miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment, plumbing equipment (sinks, commodes, urinals, flush valves, and faucets) and machinery throughout the airport complex.”Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.”The Maintenance Mechanic I duties will include but are not limited to: Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, lubrication and repairs on machinery such as pumps, boilers, air conditioning units, meters, air compressors, backhoes, incinerators, plumbing, trucks and tractors. Uses hand tools and special equipment such as welding torches to test, repair, and maintain buildings’ physical plants and equipment. May drive to and from work sites. Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment. Keeps records of maintenance and repair work performed. Welds joints and pipes.WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience is required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERENCES Preference will be given to applicants with at least (6) months of experience working as a welder in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, performing preventive maintenance, utilizing a maintenance management system, customer service skills, team-oriented workplace. Proficient knowledge of all aspects of welding.**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
