Position Overview

The ability to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul crushing equipment, conveyor systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment used in construction and quarry industries. Knowledge of splicing conveyor belt repair, material screening equipment repair, and quarry process preferred. Welding experience using many techniques, tools and materials knowledge and expertise will be preferred. This position will be responsible for all quarries and daily travel is required. Driver’s license with a good driving record is required as well.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Maintain a high level of safety compliance in accordance with company and federal guidelines.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Dismantle and reassemble conveyor components including but not limited to bearings, gearboxes, pulleys, rock crushers, mechanical processes.
  • Operate and inspect machines and heavy equipment including loaders, large haulage trucks, track hoe, skid steer, semi-truck (no cdl required, on site only).
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance work conveyor systems and crusher processes.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, shovels, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks and hoists.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul conveyor pulleys.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear..
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • The safe and efficient use of welding tools, cuts, lay out, fits and welds sheet metal, other metal or alloyed metal parts to fabricate or repair equipment to operate effectively.
  • Responsible for repair of equipment and plant maintenance using welding tools such as grinder, wire brushing, cutting torch or cutting disc.
  • Properly follow all company policies and MSHA and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
  • Some experience within a heavy equipment and quarry environment desired.
  • Welding, torching, mechanically inclined, heavy experience preferred.

Work Requirements

  • Possess a strong drive to fulfill commitments and tremendous enthusiasm.
  • Report to the assigned job site with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) (will be provided) and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required. Out of town/county/or state work may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to comprehend and communicate to others the requirements of technical specifications, regulations, reports, and manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to define problems, establish fact and draw valid conclusions.


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Walking, climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching and traveling over irregular terrain.
  • Some tasks involve: prolonged periods of standing and /or exposure to noise or weather, good motor coordination, finger dexterity, and color discrimination.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of lifting heavy objects and equipment.
  • Capable of working at heights.


Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally regularly exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • Frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
