SUMMARY

Joins metal parts and fills seams and holes of metal components. Follows sketches and specifications. Inspects equipment and structures. Follows and maintains knowledge of safety protocol.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
High school diploma

EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience as skilled welder

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas driver’s license

Welders certification from accredited trade school

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in welding.

Ability to use hand and power tools.

Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.

Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.

Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance and Repair

Plan and complete construction of welding projects and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.

Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

Develops working knowledge of various methods used for welding a variety of materials and components.

Construct and repair outdoor equipment including, but not limited to, playground equipment, fences, gates, and bleachers.

Operate all tools including mechanical and electrical equipment entailed to complete work duties.

Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment by following established inspection procedures.

Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature.

Receive and complete work orders.

Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.

Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.

Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove debris.

Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Maintain a physical file of department maintenance plan.

Safety

Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

Follow established safety procedures and techniques while performing job duties.

Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Other

Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Maintain confidentiality

Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply mathematical skills such as concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job, frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying are required. Frequent districtwide travel is required. Specific vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery and uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. The employee is exposed to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals.
