Material Handler – Fabrication

SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting fabrication operators in increasing efficiency by optimizing available press time and maintaining high 6S standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential:

• Eliminates fabrication operators from moving material as much as possible. This includes all carts, baskets, totes, and bins. Includes delivery of J-boxes and their baskets to case line operators, delivery of all rods to finning area, and removing all finished parts from press.
• Loads material cradles for press operators, prep and deliver blanks ahead of time as needed.
• Puts steel where assigned; keeps holding area organized.
• Removes baskets from work area and place in holding area, using forklift or pallet jack.
• Keeps area organized utilizing labeling system, consistent with 6S principles.
• Assists with press/die set-ups.
• Active member of SMED team (Single Minute Exchange of Dies, a Lean tool); acquires, develops and uses these skills on daily basis.
• Improves labeling and marking of material and parts storage locations.
• Ensures that all steel, scrap, baskets, carts, skids and parts are always in their proper location. Works with Fabrication Manager to create additional locations as necessary.
• Maintains the case line stocked with deflectors, J-boxes and hangers.
• Works with other material handlers in different departments to coordinate the daily production of part.
• Must be able to operate all presses in the fabrication shop as needed.

LEAN RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Preferred:

• Bi-lingual ability
• 1-Year experience in assembly, soldering, blueprint reading
• Experience with a shop floor system on PC

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

• Forklift certification (or ability to be certified) is required
