Your Opportunity
Our Energy team is currently seeking a Sr. Specialist – Materials & Welding to join our Integrity group. The primary role of the role of the Sr. Specialist – Materials & Welding is to support the integrity department working on integrity-related projects for pipelines, facilities, and terminals. This often involves a multidisciplinary approach wherein the fundamentals of fracture mechanics, heat transfer, stress analysis, corrosion, metallic/non-metallic material performance, mechanical testing, welding processes and PQR’s, metallurgy, damage mechanisms, fitness for service of materials, finite element analysis, and non-destructive examination are applied.
Your Key Responsibilities
Creation and review of welding procedure specifications (WPS) to ASME IX, CSA Z662, API 1104, API 650, and other codes. The role will involve assisting with the development of in-service welding procedures for pipeline repair activities on operational pipelines as they are required. Conducting analyses in support of client’s materials requirements.
Involvement in research-style activities including the development of internal projects, literature searches, and the use of modern and innovative techniques to solve our client’s challenging problems
Review of welding procedure specifications (WPS), inspection test plans (ITP), and mill test reports (MTR) to code and client specifications
Materials, welding, and inspection support for internal and external clients. This work is often completed with very short timelines and limited information, requiring a high degree of flexibility, strong multidisciplinary background, and excellent communication
Assist in the development of new revenue sources through internal research projects, development of work practices, marketing, conferences, journal articles, and business development activities
Fitness-for-service assessments of pipelines, piping, pressure vessels, and tanks
Creation of non-destructive examination (NDE) defect acceptance criteria through the use of fracture mechanics, limit states design, and knowledge of the limitations of various NDE techniques
Specification writing including welding and non-destructive examination scope of work documents
Assisting in and development of new and innovative ways to conduct materials evaluations and studies (including materials selection, fitness for service, material performance, material joining)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of project management principles and ability to conduct project scoping, budgeting and scheduling an asset
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experienced with Canadian and US standards, practices and applicable legislation
Demonstrate technical proficiency in conducting Fitness for Service and Risk Assessments
Demonstrated technical proficiency in supporting Integrity Management Plans
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other software tools
Demonstrated technical proficiency in writing technical documents and reports
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills are essential
Demonstrated initiative, Leadership and self-motivation
Well-organized and able to plan activities to meet multiple project workloads and schedules
Education and Experience
Minimum B.Sc. in Materials/ Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
Minimum 10 years work experience related to integrity within the Canadian energy industry
P. Eng. status recognized by APEGA or equivalent provincial association
Additional qualifications recognized by AMPP/NACE, ASM, API
