Core Competencies Supporting the Overall Mandate:

Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with our team of equipment operators, shop staff, and management. This means expressing ideas and opinions in a professional and respectful manner, listening to understand, and teaching others.

Problem Solving: Ability to effectively apply technical knowledge to complete preventative maintenance, complete repairs and execute farm fabrication projects. With the goal of machine uptime shop staff are expected to identify issues independently and addresses them.

Strategic and decisive: Evaluate future implications of current decisions and action; the ability to mentally create the scenarios and outcomes of situations that could develop from decisions or plans of action. Be decisive in decision making and take responsibility for decisions made.

Time Management: The ability to efficiently, and consistently deliver desired outcomes set out by management both independently and as a member of the shop team. Participate in the planning of each day’s tasks under the direction of management to complete time sensitive projects on time and reprioritize efforts as required.

Team Player: Work effectively with the team as described above with the overall goal of ensuring the farm operation runs smoothly and efficiently. Perform all functions of the position with the best interest of the team and the organization in mind.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Complete repair and fabrication projects in the organizations modern shop facility and in the field as required. Under the direction of the shop manager this will entail but is not limited to:

  • Repair and maintenance of the organization’s fleet of equipment and rolling stock. This includes but is not limited to grain crop and orchard equipment. Tractors, harvesters, light and heavy trucks and trailers.
  • Setup and field ready equipment for the task at hand.
  • Use mechanical systems knowledge to assist in training new operators and identify errors in operation that are leading to equipment failure.
  • Complete fabrication or modification projects on equipment.
  • Assist management with record keeping, cost tracking, and other clerical requirements for maintenance and repairs as required.
  • Must be aware of and practice, safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment and understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Operate farm equipment when required.
  • Assist with farm facilities maintenance when required.
  • Willing to work overtime especially in peak seasons.
  • Adhere to all Schuyler Farms Limited policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in repair and fabrication.
  • Experience with equipment and road vehicles from any industry.
  • Mechanical education and or certifications are an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding and high degree of competency in engines, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in welding and fabrication.
  • Working knowledge of agricultural equipment.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and act decisively.
  • Drive and hunger to learn new systems and processes.
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license.
  • Valid Ontario AZ license is an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $22.00-$30.00 per hour
