We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our Team in the position of Metal Fabrication Lead Hand, on the day shift, at our main facility in Courtland. In this position, the incumbent will oversee the daily activities and functions of the Fabrication Team whose main function is to cut and shape metal pipe and sheets, with precision, creating sub-components to be used in all areas of manufacturing. Machinery used includes laser cutters, metal saws and brake presses. The incumbent will assist in fabrication activities, working to meet customer demands.

The ideal candidate will possess proven leadership skills, a successful management style and a strong work ethic; someone who is results-driven and can motivate their team to successfully meet company objectives.

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Provide leadership, assistance and support the Fabrication Team
  • Coordinate and schedule production activities, within the Fabrication department, based on material availability and production orders
  • Ensure quality inspections are completed accurately and as required (first off and in-process inspections)
  • Provide timely and effective communication to and from the supervisory / management staff and team members
  • Fosters an environment of safety, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Ensures adherence to Company policies, procedures, processes and shop rules
  • Responsible for training & development of new/existing employees on all aspects of the job
  • Maintain discipline and control in the shop
  • Assume responsibility for organization and accuracy of site inventory once received from the Materials department
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of manufacturing experience, progressing into a leadership capacity
  • Minimum of grade 12 education required or equivalent.
  • Assertive self-starter with attention to detail, requiring minimal supervision
  • Above average interpersonal skills
  • Experience operating metal fabrication equipment
  • Overhead Crane certification, strong asset
  • Forklift certification and experience, strong asset
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Bill of Materials
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools
  • Use measurement tools to ensure the accuracy of the size and angle (tape measure, Vernier, protractor, combo square)
  • Basic understanding of computers and software applications
  • Willingness to work overtime or adjusted hours as required
