Overview

R&W Metal Fabricating and Design Inc., located in Paris, Ontario, is a manufacturer of steel fabricated products.

We are currently looking for an experienced Welder/Fitter/Fabricator to work as part of our skilled prototype department. As one of our fabricating experts, a prototype welder/fitter is responsible for building one-off prototypes and first-offs for production to customer specifications.

All work starts from raw materials “from the ground up”, including the use of all required machinery and equipment, moving and handling all materials through to welding and assembling a final product. This often includes the fabrication of the MIG welding fixtures to be used in our production welding department.

You will have a direct impact on the results of production through intelligent jig/fixture design and help ensure customer satisfaction through the prototyping process, working hand-in-hand with our designers.

The qualified applicants will have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience with GMAW/MIG welding (CWB certification an asset)
  • Experience building/fabricating from drawing packages (can read blueprints)
  • Experience making weld fixtures/jigs for MIG weldments
  • Experience and ability to operate a variety of shop machinery and equipment such as:
  • Horizontal band saws (cutting tube, pipe, flatbar, roundbar)
  • Ironworker / Piranha (flatbar, roundbar)
  • Shear
  • Drill presses
  • Overhead and jib cranes
  • Forklift (counterbalance)
  • Plasma cutter, torch, hand grinders (zipcuts), etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must have a good attendance record
  • Must have a good health and safety record
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment (production employees and designers)
  • Position is for the day shift: Monday through Thursday 7am-430pm; Friday 7am – 230pm
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime with the need arises

Handling and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent movement (lifting, carrying, bending, turning and pulling) of material
  • Standing for up to 9 hours per day
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment as per company standards (safety glasses, gloves and steel-toed CSA certified boots)

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage to be determined, commensurate with skill and experience
