Highlights of the job

We are hiring one (1) Full Time, Temporary (up to 11 months) Millwright I/ Welder position working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Millwright/Welder position is accountable for the millwright and welder functions at the Edmonton Water Treatment Plants and Reservoirs (WTPs). This includes ensuring millwright and welder-related work within Edmonton Water Treatments Plants is carried out in an efficient, effective, and safe manner with time spans of up to 3 months.

What you’d be responsible for

Provide input to the Maintenance area of the Edmonton WTP’s plans and directions, and ensure ongoing appropriate relationships with other positions.

Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics as set put by the Manager, Skilled Trade.

Perform scheduled, corrective, and improvement mechanical maintenance using procedures that include ultrasound analysis and laser. Repair or replace components as necessary.

Perform manual tasks that may include installation, repairs, and maintenance on pumps, valves, compressors and motors, and chemical feed equipment.

Disassembling, cleaning, and lubricating equipment and machinery components inspections.

Interpret drawings, and manufacturer’s specifications for the installation, modification, or repair of equipment.

Participate in required training components to ensure the safety and reliability of the EWTP equipment and systems.

Prepare and implement maintenance programs and provide required reporting and follow-up

Research and purchase materials and parts

Develop and implement safe work plans, hazard assessments, tailgate talks, and all other safety requirements to ensure worker safety within the Edmonton WTPs.

Develop and establish work standards and procedures for the mechanical components of the WTPs.

Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.

What’s required to be successful

Completion of Grade 12 or G.E.D. or equivalent combination of training or experience.

Certified Provincial Journeyman Millwright/Welder is required. Single Trade Millwright with extensive experience will be considered.

Interprovincial Red Seal would be an asset.

3+ years preferred of technical/tradesperson level work at an Industrial/Commercial working facility – preference to a Water/Wastewater facility.

Class 5 Driver’s license (with 6 demerits or less) A Driver Abstract may be required upon request.

Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, schematics, sketches, and technical specifications pertaining to the work.

Extensive background with a variety of mechanical equipment.

Ability to operate overhead crane

Solid understanding of computer software e.g. Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Effective decision-making skills in utilizing resources and solving technical challenges.

Knowledge of basic construction related to plant upgrades an asset.

Require basic hand tools used by Millwright.

Ability to meet the physical demands of the position. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing will be required.

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and are based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online
