ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a* Mine Maintenance Welding Supervisor *to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Superintendent.
Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
The Mine Maintenance Welding Supervisor will be responsible for directing the Mobile Maintenance welding workforce in daily maintenance activities for all mining and mobile equipment, while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing and providing expertise for all welding and machining as well as some mechanical and electrical activities related to mining and mobile equipment maintenance;
  • Leading and coaching team members in the achievement of maintenance safety and productivity targets;
  • Developing and implementing standards and procedures that meet all statutory and regulatory requirements;
  • Assisting in the preparation of maintenance operating cost forecasts, budgets and monthly maintenance reports;
  • Scheduling and planning welding and machining as well as some mechanical and electrical activities to maximize equipment availability and reduce down time and operating cost.

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Ontario provincial or inter-provincial (Red Seal) trade certificate is preferred;
  • 10 years’ experience in a maintenance capacity;
  • 5 years’ experience supervisory experience;
  • Sound interpersonal and management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of employees;
  • Experience with open pit mining equipment, with electrical shovels and drills would bring a strong asset;
  • Experience working at a remote work site is an asset.
