Overview
The Quality Engineer at Rimex should be a professional capable to identify non-conformities, collect and analyze data in the search of the root cause(s) of various quality issues in our RIMEX facility. Once the problem is found, different theories need to be tested; the QC Engineer is responsible to investigate the facts, how they connect with the problem and determine compliance to the specifications; then come to conclusions on the root cause(s); the severity, traceability and eventual need of corrective and preventive measures and its follow up.
He or She should conduct correct and professional data analysis in a daily basis, with an exceptional, positive and proactive attitude; capable of following standard processes with diligent care providing the best service to internal and external customers.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
Quality Control Inspector
Perform in a daily basis In-process and final QC inspection procedures.
May include but not limited to visual, dimensional and paint inspections.
Perform daily routines of welding inspection
NDT (Non-Destructive tests), Ultrasonic, magnetic particle if needed.
Aid all production staff and supervisors (lead-hands) providing an initiative-taking and exceptional service when they call for QC.
Conduct special inspections of in-stock or returned parts if applicable.
Quality Reports (NCR’s)
Enter Quality Reports into our Quality Reports system (NCR’s).
Revise frequently all the quality reports (QR’s) from RIMEX QR system.
Determine what plant the issue comes from, confirm the defective Qty and part #.
Investigate why the issue happened in the first place and what elements contributed to the problem to happen
Check for traceability, repeatability, and severity
Confirm the real root cause(s)
Based on the above, determine if preventive and corrective measures are needed to mitigate the problem.
Support the investigation of customer complaints.
Corrective and Preventive Actions (CA-PA)
Based on data, if the case is risky or has been repeated several times then a CAPA case may be needed.
Revise and confirm the root causes contributing to the problem(s).
Determine the action plan (task lists) to counteract the problem from the very root.
Assign a responsible and due dates for each task and for the entire case and date to follow up
Diligent follow up
QR’s reviews and Metrics
Using the RIMEX databases prepare the data for discussion.
Gather relevant information to be discussed with the supervisors and employees in a daily or periodic basis.
Group QR’s and connect them with the root cause(s) so they can be fully communicated.
Prepare a periodic written report with the most relevant metrics for management review.
Support both:
Incoming Inspection Process
Conduct inspections on incoming materials/parts and report it into our ERP system.
May include, visual, dimensional, hardness tests, ultrasonic and magnetic particle.
Facilitate external testing if needed.
Calibration System
Monitor and control all measuring devices.
Ensure the proper measuring device is used for the associated process.
Ensure measuring device availability/vending machine inventory levels (Inventory Control).
Conduct internal verification for specific devices.
Facilitate external calibration when needed.
Update calibration records.
Conduct investigation and decide the disposition of measuring instruments that failed calibration.
Other Duties
Support in the investigation of customer cases and help to implement the preventive and corrective actions derived from these cases.
Generate purchase requisitions for any equipment or consumables needed within the QC department.
Be the backup in the absence of any of our QC team members.
Support to the shop, share data, help them to prevent quality problems before they arise
Strongly support your team.
Actively use our communication tools to share relevant info with your coworkers and staff.
Education:
Required
Knowledgeable and skilled on NDT, Non-destructive testing: Visual
CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certified Welding Inspector Level I
Desirable
NDT Certificates: Ultrasonics (UT), Magnetic Particle testing (MP), Liquid penetrating testing (LT).
CGSB Ultrasonic Testing Level I is currently not a requisite, but the candidate should be committed to the pursuit of this certificate in a mid-term period.
Welding or Metallurgical schooling background are a plus.
Experience, Skills & Abilities
Required:
Required NDT: Visual inspection experience.
Strong measurement skills.
Capable with visual and numerical thinking.
Capable and comfortable with computer and MS Office suite, Excel knowledge medium level is needed.
Desirable:
Ultrasonic testing experience is strongly desired.
Magnetic Particle testing MP, and Liquid penetrating testing LT are also an asset.
Metal industry background.
Welding experience would be beneficial.
