Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Operations Trainer – Metal Fabrication/Welding.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:
Education Required: Metal Fabrication Trade Certification/Diploma or Welding Trade Certification/Diploma (dual trade certification considered an asset)
Experience: Journeyperson (red seal required)
5+ years applicable trade experience as red seal required
5+ years in shipbuilding experience, preferably in naval ship new construction.
Self-starter with the ability to complete tasks effectively and efficiently
Ability to effectively instruct in a classroom environment
Ability to counsel and assist in GAP closure so that trainees successfully complete the orientation
Ability to work well with others in a team environment
Ability to take direction and give instructions
Familiarity using a computer (including Microsoft Word, Excel etc)
Be a Team Leader
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the development, teaching and monitoring of the new facility orientation program for Irving Shipbuilding trade employees.
While conducting class, the Operation Trainer will exercise direct control over activities, certify attendance, counsel trainees on progress and suggest how improvement can be achieved.
Work will be conducted both at the Nova Scotia Community College and the shipyard and will be required for our day shift and night shift trade members. Availability to work night shift, 5PM to 1AM, on a rotational scheduled will be required.
